ABR - SIDEWINDER
I have a Blackwolf Turbo tent and love it, can set it up myself and it is waterproof and wind proof its done
Cape York, Simpson, Arnheim Land and Beach camping with no issues.
My friends are looking to buy a tent for 4 people but they don't like my tent ;-( they want more space.
They are looking at the Coleman Full
Fly Instant Up 8 Person Tent like this one for $327.00

I watched the setup video and think it may not be the best tent to buy and needs 2 people to set it up. Normally the kids take off and she whom must be obeyed is not that helpful with tent setting up.
Any suggestions ?
Oh they drive a FJ Cruiser and it must go on the roof.

Honestly some people you cant please hey, one option is a tourer 9+, one pole 6 pegs, handles wind and rain and easily put up and packed up by 1 person.

Yeah, good choice, bulletproof, tough, and with side pole option = no centre pole = more flexible / usable floor space too.

Look at an Oztent. Easy to setup with one person, and usually lives on a roof because they don't fold up too small. A variety of sizes, and a
well made tent. Google "Oztent" and take a look.

I've been reading great things about the Darche AIR volution tents, no poles, the supports are inflatable. My first reaction was one of scepticism but having seen a few videos and reviews I am considering these as my next tent.
Very easy to put up.

I have heard a couple of negative reviews of them not handling windy conditions very
well
I like the concept though

Oztent
Super strong and pretty good value.
I wouldn't like to be in a strong wind and heavy rain in one of those Colman tents.
My brother has one and he is not impressed with it.

I've been looking at Oztents and Turbo Tents. Not overwhelmed by Oztents: long, heavy and exxy. TTs have a partial double skin effectively with a couple of vents at the top. In the north I'm seeing folk rigging up a
fly to cover the Oztent to reduce the heat transfer.
But as they say it all depends. If the application is base
camp shelter for a number of days you don't mind spending more time on the setup and wearing more weight and cost for extra 'feachers'. A traditional cabin tent with a silver tarp over the top will do the job and not break the bank.

You know if has to go on the roof anyway then it might as
well be an Oztent Derek.
Oztents aren't perfect but are good and easy to setup.
Incidently friends of ours dumped their Black Wolf and got RV5 Oztent cause it was easier to packup.
Oztent tents aren't cheap - but someone did make a rip off copy once $300 odd.
If money isn't an object then a good thing to do is get 2 smaller Oztents as there is a kit to Zip them together as desired.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from my recollection the cost between an Oztent and a Black Wolf Turbo was similar when I researched them a few years ago.
Came down to the BW Turbo 300 (which came with a video showing how to erect and dismantle) or the Oztent.
We chose the Oztent as it had a large awning, which could, with the addition of side panels and front panels, virtually add another room.
We have peak side panels for ours and with the car backed up to the tent, gives a very flexible solution.
Each to their own but we have no problem carrying the Oztent on the roof racks and it is seriously easy to erect and pack up.

I agree Bill , I think our Oztent was around $900 , so that copy from
Ballarat looked good at $300 but we got Oztent anyway.
Mind you we had 3 out of 3 damaged Oztents in a big blow recently , but everyone else suffered as
well.
Found a very good repairer in FernTree gully that fix up our damage apart from a bent stay so all in all we are happy.
I think the pack/unpack ease of Oztent won us over also , but I didn't want to lift it to roof so with a bit of effort we are able to carry it inside our Patrol.
AS you say those extras do make it very flexible.

Have a look at the Dune Eyre flex bow canvas tourers. Presently on sale at Anaconda. Top quality,simple to solo pitch and tough as nails. Our 10x14 has survived some horrendous conditions.
